An RV generator is generally powered by gasoline, diesel or propane and provides 120 or 240 volts AC electrical power for use when a plugin source is not available (boondocking or dry camping). Generators are rated by their electrical output, usually in watts.  A minimum generator size for a small RV might be 1500 to 2000 watts.  Motorhomes often have at least one air conditioner which requires a generator with a minimum of 3,000 watts.  Generators also charge the house batteries which provide the light and power when the generator off.  While RV generators are very common in North America they are unusual in Europe.
